Once you've prepared your template for transactional sending via Postmark, you can now create an automation to send transactional messages.
Creating the Automation
To get started creating an automation, navigate to Automations in eduCRM, then click "Create an automation" in the top right corner:
In the model window, click "Start from scratch", then click "Continue":
Another model window will pop up asking to "Select your trigger", for now click the "X" in the top right.
Then, click the box in the top right to set a name for this automation, then click "Save":
Next, drag the Action named "Send a transactional email" to the + button on the automation map:
A model window will pop up, select your account and click "Next". On the next screen you'll configure your transactional send, fill it out as follows:
- Postmark Server: [Your Account Name]
- Transactional Message Stream: Default Transactional Stream
- ActiveCampaign Template: [name of the template you prepared]
- Message Subject: [your message subject, you can click the lightning bolt to add personalization fields]
- From Address: [choose one of the sender signatures from your account]
- Postmark Tag: [you should make the tag the name of the template if you'd like it to be catagorized on it's own in the Postmark metrics]
- Track Opens: Yes
- Track Links: Yes
Then click "Finish":
Activate your Automation
Next, you'll need to activate your automation before we move on to testing your message. This will allow us to add any test contacts to the automation to make sure the transactional email looks good in your inbox:
Test Sending
Once the automation is active, search for your test contact on the "Contacts" page and click "Edit All".
On the following model window, make sure you're editing the correct number of contacts (since we are only sending to a test contact), then click "Add to an automation". Select your transactional automation from the dropdown and click "Add", then click "Apply":
Your test contact should receive you test send shortly.
Sending to a segment
Once your transactional email passes your tests, it's ready to add real contacts to the automation.
The process for this is similar to adding the test contact to the automation, except this time you are creating a segment instead of searching for a contact directly.
Navigate to your "Contacts" page and click into the search bar, then click "Advanced Search":
This will open a segment editor where you can create your segment like you would when creating a segment for a marketing campaign send.
Once finished, click "Search":
Your contacts should appear, make sure the number of contacts is correct, then click "Edit all" (you will most likely be sending to more than 1 contact):
As with the test send process, make sure you're editing the correct number of contacts, then click "Add to an automation". Select your transactional automation from the dropdown and click "Add", then click "Apply":
From this point, the contacts will be sent the transactional message.
